I agree with you, Steve. Most of these old contracts limit the type of device or configuration that the owner of the master can create and sell. Even though the Copyright Royalty Tribunal pronounced that a "ringtone" calls for a mechanical license, the creation of a ringtone requires a different set of rights. It is unlikely that those contracts granted the labels the requisite rights. It will be interesting to watch.
